NETWORKING MEETING - JAN 2011

What a fantastic start to 2011 at the Brighter Networking group with attendance from some wonderful thriving businesses all looking for the same thing.

The first meeting of the year was kick started by the energetic Cas Francis of April Insurance who spoke about the importance of goal setting personally and in business.

Then followed a vibrant and thought-provoking presentation by Ian McGregor of Peak Change in Chesterfield who demonstrated the importance of capturing peoples imagination and concentration by speaking through 'stories'(what we call Metaphors)

Its important to use stories in business as it speaks at two levels - consciously and unconsciously which gets the message across more.

During the presentation we demonstrated the detail which could be remembered from a number of stories only heard once and some of those were weeks previous

Septembers business spotlight was delivered by the MDS services duo Marilyn and Dave.

Partners in business and leisure, the pair gave an insightful presentation demonstrating hwo well they work together offering services from telesales to international courier solutions.

What a fantastic evening it was for our first re-launch meeting of 2010 - both a fantastic new opportunity for many local businesses to network and a brilliant new venue the Twin Oaks Hotel.

EUROPE NEEDS MORE WOMEN!

Female Entrepreneurs are vital to Britain’s growth and Europe’s economic prosperity, yet women are still held back from launching businesses which the EU have now announced will be a key priority to support women’s business community.
Currently only 8% of businesses in the EU, are owned by a women, compared with over 16% male owned companies, and almost three times more have their own staff.

The Enterprise and Industry Commissioner, Gunter Verheugen says “This must change, we need to strengthen the role of women in our societies which will not only bring fresh business ideas but also increase economic growth”

The EU has planned to boost female businesses since 2004, and although in the past decade there has been a noticeable increase more still needs to be done.

A new initiative is a European network of Female Entrepreneurship Ambassadors, which include 130 successful businesswomen from ten European countries, who will act as mentors and budding role models for female entrepreneurs and promote the entrepreneurship.

This new network has opened a Women’s Entrepreneurship portal, with links to contacts and networking opportunities and brings together over 30 countries to provide support, advice and information to female entrepreneurs, helping them to raise their profile and expand their businesses.

Brighter Networking is an independent networking company established early 2009 by local successful business owners to provide vital support, knowledge and ‘real’ networking and sales opportunities to local businesses for a reasonable cost.

Networking events are run monthly at a central location, ideal for businesses across the East Midlands area including Derbyshire, Nottingham, Sheffield and Derby.

Networking is a proven way of generating business referrals through relationship marketing – with a recent survey concluding that over 70% of business is gained through using this networking system!

As local business owners ourselves, we understand how difficult it can be to manage your time efficiently, increase contacts, learn new skills and attract new sales opportunities at the same time.

We saw a huge gap in the market as far as networking clubs are concerned, with many different organisations offering networking opportunities, but few of them delivering without the attachment of a rather large price tag or unrealistic time commitments, which is why we decided to launch this new way of networking
